Helping Blackburn families stay warm, save money and use energy wisely

Our Support is Warm is a 12-month One Voice Blackburn project supporting households across Blackburn with Darwen to reduce energy costs, improve energy efficiency and make informed choices about their energy use.

Funded through the
Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme, the project launched in April 2026 and will provide practical, accessible support to at least 300 households.

Why Our Support is Warm?

For many families, rising energy costs, cold homes and inefficient heating can place significant pressure on household budgets and wellbeing.

We want to make it easier for local people to understand their energy use, access the support available to them and make practical changes that can help them stay warmer while reducing their bills.

Our support is friendly, practical and tailored to the needs of each household.

How we can help?

ONE-TO-ONE ENERGY ADVICE
We provide personalised advice to help households:

  • Understand their energy bills
  • Explore tariffs and ways to reduce costs
  • Adopt simple energy-saving habits
  • Understand available support and funding
  • Access further advice where needed

HOME ENERGY ASSESSMENTS
We will provide 150 household energy assessments, helping residents identify ways to make their homes warmer, more comfortable and energy efficient.

Each assessment will provide practical recommendations and a tailored action plan.

COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS
Our community workshops provide practical information about:

  • Saving energy at home
  • Improving energy efficiency
  • Safe energy use
  • Renewable energy options
  • Understanding energy bills and available support

We aim to deliver 10 workshops reaching more than 200 participants.

ENERGY CHAMPIONS
We are training 20 local volunteers as Energy Champions, giving community members the knowledge and confidence to share energy-saving advice with others.

The programme will help create a network of trusted local voices who can provide ongoing peer-to-peer support.

CRISIS SUPPORT
For households facing immediate heating or energy-related problems, we can provide practical support and connect residents with appropriate services and longer-term advice.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
We will also take our message directly into local communities through awareness campaigns, events and outreach activity, aiming to reach more than 500 residents.

Who can benefit?
Our Support is Warm is particularly focused on households experiencing:

  • Fuel poverty or high energy costs
  • Poor housing conditions
  • Economic hardship
  • Inefficient heating systems
  • Difficulties using energy services or understanding bills

We are particularly keen to support single-parent households, residents living with long-term health conditions or disabilities, families using prepayment meters and ethnically diverse communities experiencing language or digital barriers.

OUR TARGETS
Over the 12-month project, we aim to:

300+ Households supported with energy advice
150 Home energy assessments
10 Community workshops
200+ Workshop participants
20 Energy Champions trained
500+ Residents reached through community outreach
30+ Referrals to local or national energy-efficiency schemes
