Lancashire Mind’s new Chief Executive to present Woman of the Year award at the 1V awards Ceremony

A newly appointed chief executive will be presenting a prestigious community award next month.

David Dunwell was revealed as the new Chief Executive Officer at Lancashire Mind early this year. He will be presenting the 1V Woman of the Year at the 1V Awards at King Georges Hall in Blackburn. The event is organised by charity One Voice Blackburn.

The finalists for the award, which is sponsored by Lancashire Mind, were announced on social media early in January and include four outstanding individuals. The finalists are; Zaynab (Zee) Jogi, Uzma Khan, Vicky McGurk and Sadia Mehmood.

The 1V Woman of the Year should be a role model for the whole community.  She must demonstrate a series of activities or programmes which have made a real difference in her community, and the wider area of Blackburn with Darwen. She should show a real passion for her work and seek to positively impact lives and communities.

There are a total of seven awards up for grabs at the 1V Awards Dinner. The event also includes performances by young people, interviews, and a three course meal. This year’s theme is Saturday Night Fever, and it will also feature the launch of a We Love Blackburn campaign by One Voice Blackburn.

David Dunwell is no stranger to the awards having attended previous past events in a previous role. One Voice Blackburn have a long standing relationship with Lancashire Mind in supporting individuals from marginalised and socially isolated communities in their mental health needs.

David said: “It’s great that one of the first things I get to do in my new role as Chief Exec of Lancashire Mind is to present this award.

“ There are some amazing finalists who all exemplify what it means to be Woman of the Year, making a huge difference to their communities and being true role models for the people of Blackburn with Darwen.

“I’m already familiar with the valuable work 1V do with Lancashire Mind for their local communities and I look forward to continuing that good working relationship.”

Abrar Hussain, Chairman of One Voice Blackburn, welcomed David to his new role. “Lancashire Mind is our chosen partner in working with our communities in Blackburn with Darwen.

“We have had an excellent relationship with David in his previous roles here in Blackburn. I feel that he has a breadth of knowledge and contacts in this area which will serve him well. We are excited to be continuing our partnership through the 1V Heath Award where there are some excellent finalists for the accolade.”
