Leaders Award 2026

PRESS RELEASE

Nominations Open for 2026 Leader’s Award

One Voice Blackburn is proud to partner with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to announce that nominations are now open for the prestigious Leader’s Award 2026.

The Leader’s Award celebrates individuals and organisations that demonstrate exceptional leadership, make an extraordinary contribution to the borough, and enhance the reputation of the town and its communities. A central focus of the award is to recognise those who embody the values of integration and cohesion in Blackburn with Darwen.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Leader’s Award. Over the past decade, the award has honoured a wide range of inspirational people and groups who have gone above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in the borough.

The 2026 Leader’s Award winner will be announced at the prestigious 1V Awards Dinner on 28 March 2026, hosted by One Voice Blackburn. The 1V Awards Dinner is the premier awards event in Blackburn with Darwen. Launched in 2013, it celebrates the work of community volunteers, workers, and organisations who make a lasting impact. In 2026, the event will be held at the iconic Exchange Building in Blackburn, marking a special milestone in its history.

Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “This year marks ten years of celebrating the incredible people and organisations who make a real difference through the Leader’s Award.

“Over the past decade, we’ve seen community leaders who bring people together, inspire change, and help Blackburn with Darwen thrive.

“What makes this borough truly special is the way people step up for one another – ensuring no one is left behind. Their kindness, determination, and commitment to unity continue to inspire us all. It’s a privilege to reflect on the achievements of those who have been honoured over the years.”

The most recent recipient of the award was The Billy Project. Led by Leanne Procter, the organisation aims to combat inactivity and isolation while empowering individuals to make positive life choices.

On receiving the award earlier this year, Leanne said: “This recognition came as a complete shock. We were immensely grateful for the support from our partners, volunteers, and the community, whose dedication and collaboration have made our work possible. Together, we are supporting those who need it the most, and we are helping to build a stronger, more inclusive community.”

Past winners of the Leader’s Award include Blackburn Muslim Burial Society, The Deaf Village, Jamie Holman and Chris Seddon.
