LEADERSHIP in Action

The 2020 Vision group gives young people the chance to develop leadership skills while creating meaningful social impact. Members design and deliver programmes that tackle issues important to young people in Blackburn with Darwen.

They lead on One Voice events, including the 1V Awards Dinner and Afternoon Tea, and support civic events in the town. The group also helps run the holiday club, planning and delivering activities for up to 400 young people, making 2020 Vision a key volunteering arm of One Voice.

1V Scouts

1V Scouts offers a structured leadership pathway for young people from age five, helping them gain confidence, teamwork, and practical skills.

As they progress, members take on leadership roles in supporting younger groups and running activities. The strength of 1V Scouts lies in its dedicated volunteers and leaders, who mentor members to grow into confident individuals capable of leading within the group and the wider community.

One Voice Blackburn Magazine

The One Voice Blackburn Magazine is a community-led publication featuring stories, achievements, and important messages from across Blackburn.

Young people take the lead in editorial, production, and design, working alongside journalists, columnists, and photographers. The magazine highlights local news, community achievements, and positive stories, helping foster pride, connection, and celebration of local success.

The Aleeza Isa Interviews Show

The Aleeza Isa Show empowers young people to lead and shine through their own projects. Hosted by 17-year-old Aleeza Isa, she has already led major community events such as the 1V Awards Dinner and the Christmas Lights Switch On, and has completed four live shows in front of a live audience.

Recorded at the Hornby Lecture Theatre and shared on social media, the show features interviews with local celebrities, changemakers, and community leaders. From January 2026, it will air monthly, giving young people the opportunity to host, produce, and develop their own content.

Youth-Led Podcasts

One Voice is also developing a youth-led podcast series. This gives young people the chance to plan, host, and produce their own discussions on topics that matter to them and their community.

Through podcasting, participants develop skills in interviewing, storytelling, media production, and public speaking, while amplifying important voices and perspectives from across Blackburn.

Madrassah Club

In partnership with Blackburn Youth Zone, the Madrassah Club provides local Madrassahs with the chance to use the Youth Zone for enrichment activities beyond the classroom.

Sessions are led by members of the 2020 Vision group, giving young people the opportunity to develop leadership skills while mentoring and supporting their peers. The programme also connects Madrassahs with wider community groups and local initiatives, creating more opportunities for young people across Blackburn and Darwen to learn, grow, and engage.

Through the Madrassah Club, participants not only enjoy meaningful activities but also strengthen community ties and build confidence in a supportive, youth-led environment.

Together, these projects showcase One Voice’s mission: empowering young people to lead, create, and inspire change in their community.
