One Voice Blackburn is a charity that aspires to create cohesive, aspirational and confident communities in Blackburn with Darwen. It is a charity that is respected across the town especially working with marginalised communities. 

Our Aims

Sums & Palindromes is the tuition and learning arm of One Voice Blackburn, a charity respected across Blackburn with Darwen for supporting local communities and young people.

Since Autumn 2023, we have worked with over 70 primary and secondary school students, helping them improve academically while building self-confidence.

Age Groups

Initially we will be working with the following school age groups:

  • Year 5
  • Year 6
  • Year 9
  • Year 10
  • Year 11 (limited)

Subjects

English & Maths 
Science (for years 9 and 10)

Our Structure

1 fully qualified teacher is assigned to a maximum of 5 children(in some cases we will start with 1 fully qualified teacher to 3 children)

Tuition Tailored to Your Child

  • Small Group Learning – 1 fully qualified teacher for a maximum of 5 students (initially starting with 3 students per teacher in some cases)
  • Tailored Support – Sessions designed to address individual learning needs and build confidence
  • Qualified Educators – All teachers hold a degree, a PGCE or equivalent post-graduate qualification, and at least 2 years’ classroom experience
  • SATs Preparation – Primary students
  • GCSE Support – Secondary students
  • Saturday Sessions – Convenient weekend learning

Timings

Saturday mornings.
9.00am to 2.00pm
We operate over 42 weeks across the calendar year.

The Teachers

The teachers at Sums & Palindromes will be qualified to Degree level, and have a PGCE or additional post degree qualification. The teachers will also have at least 2 years teaching experience in a school setting.
