WEGs & Youth Services

The award-winning West End Girls (WEGs) group, launched in 2014, offers young females life-changing opportunities that empower them to reach their full potential. From hosting major civic events through public speaking platforms to daring 16-year-olds with the chance to skydive from 15,000 feet, WEGs is a unique group combining social action projects with incredible experiences. Members engage in debates, volunteer at community events, embark on worldwide trips, and even participate in local litter-picking efforts.

The 2020 Vision group gives young people the opportunity to develop leadership skills while creating meaningful social impact. Members design and deliver programmes that tackle issues important to young people in Blackburn with Darwen.

They lead on One Voice events, including the 1V Awards Dinner and Afternoon Tea, and support civic events across the town. The group also helps run the holiday club, planning and delivering activities for up to 400 young people, making 2020 Vision a key volunteering arm of One Voice.

The East End Boys group was officially launched in 2019. This boys’ group is made up of 11–16-year-old boys from Blackburn. We aim to create the next generation of young gentlemen within the community. There is a strong emphasis on moving boys out of their comfort zones and challenging them through innovative engagement methods. The EEBs develop key skills including confidence, leadership, and teamwork through activities such as public speaking and community-focused projects. We aim to create an environment where the boys can connect, develop skills, and thrive.

Mini West End Girls is the younger sister group of WEGs. It is where female empowerment begins for girls aged 6–11 years old. Mini WEGs is a place of fun and enjoyment, where girls have the opportunity to develop confidence and build lifelong friendships. Activities include arts and crafts, public speaking, science/STEM, as well as exciting trip opportunities. The girls graduate from the Minis into the older WEGs group once they turn 11.

Mini East End Boys is the younger brother group of the East End Boys. The group is aimed at boys aged 5–11 years old. There is a strong focus on teamwork, confidence, and engagement within sessions, encouraging young participants to step out of their comfort zones. We offer the boys unique opportunities to grow and thrive. Key activities include arts and crafts, public speaking, STEM projects, and outdoor excursions
